According to foreign media reports, Schaeffler announced that it will spend 180 million euros ($209 million) to build an assembly and packaging center near Leipzig, Germany, to supply auto parts and tools to warehouses in Europe. The center is expected to be operational in 2019 and will add approximately 900 jobs.
Schaeffler said in his speech that the center is located in Halle, 33km from Leipzig, and will help improve the company's distribution quality in the future. Schaeffler CEO Klaus Rosenfeld said the investment also hinted at the importance of the strategic linkages of automotive aftermarket operations and Schaeffler's commitment to the German government.
On Wednesday, Schaeffler announced its third quarter 2017 profit and sales. The company's third-quarter profit before interest and taxes (EBIT) reached 416 million euros, basically flat compared with last year; operating income in the first nine months reached 10.5 billion euros, an increase of 5% compared with the same period last year, including in Greater China The increase was 21.3%.
