Borealis has developed a series of polypropylene compounds containing post-consumer recycled materials for use in automotive interiors, exteriors, and under-the-hood applications.
The company claims that these products were developed for European customers and that the three Daplen grades allow the automotive industry to meet the need for increased material sustainability while ensuring that its performance is comparable to that of the original material.
Joost Eric Laumeyer, Global Markets Manager for Engineering Applications at Borealis, said: “We have seen this obvious trend of using both recycled materials and raw materials. Nowadays, meeting the need for improving the sustainability and resource efficiency of materials is no longer a distant issue. Ideals have become a top priority for the automotive industry."
Harald Hammer, Borealis’ vice president of engineering applications, added: “Thanks to maintaining cooperation and close ties, we have established a good relationship with our partners over the years and have developed these new Daplen products.â€
"These materials will help original equipment manufacturers and tier one suppliers to better increase the use of recycled materials without any reduction in material properties."
